One of the most incredible things about fellowships is the chance that the fellows get to learn new skills and use those skills to build something impactful. With Ethereum and Polygon gaining more and more visibility among Indian developers, Polygon Fellowship supported by Polygon was the first of its kind. The ultimate goal was for the fellows to lean into their full potential and create projects that would propel the Polygon and Ethereum ecosystems forward.

Polygon Fellowship in Numbers

We had two tracks having 25 fellows in each — a Beginner Track & Buidler Track, based on the varying skill levels from novice to experienced. The primary goal of the Polygon Fellowship's Beginner Track was to educate, upskill, and introduce talented Web2 developers who had no prior experience with Ethereum or Polygon to Web3 libraries and toolings. At the same time, the Buidler Track was for experienced developers who wanted to build something on their own with guidance from mentors.

These fellows were chosen from over 10,000 applications, with an acceptance rate of 0.7% . You would be hard-pressed to find a more talented group of fellows than these. You’ll find out shortly why these 50 fellows were the best of the best!

For beginners, this 8-week fellowship turned out to be an excellent introduction to the Ethereum and Polygon ecosystems, while the experienced builders got a chance to build the Uniswaps of the future!

A great fellowship calls for great mentors!

Proud to say that we had some great mentors on board to help the fellows learn about the industry, get a stronger grasp on the problems, and tinker with ideas to build beautiful projects. They supported the fellows throughout the program, providing feedback on their work all along the journey.

And so it begins!

The first Polygon Fellowship class for the Beginner and Buidler track began in June and July, respectively, with a stellar group of developers from all around India. Polygon fellows came to the program with varying levels of experience: some were building in Web3 for the first time, while others had extensive expertise in Web3 startups.

The first six weeks of the fellowship were a whirlwind of learning and getting introduced to various new topics — learning how to interact with a node, write smart contracts, and use Web3 as part of their coursework. After mastering the basics, they dove into the subject of Web3 applications over the next few weeks. Everything from DeFi, DAOs, NFTs, gaming, and infra tools like Truffle & Metaverse was studied in detail.

Along with the coursework and assignments about the above subjects, various knowledge sessions about the applications and significance of Web3 were held to help them understand the larger impact of Web3.

🤩 The Unforgettable HackerHouse Experience

Seven incredible days of mentorship, learning, coding, and fun.

This week of fellowship was indeed the most memorable one. We kicked off the week with a grand inauguration ceremony and introductions. The next couple of days were spent sharing ideas with incredible Web3 experts and building projects together. The days were packed with seminars from renowned Web3 entrepreneurs, networking opportunities, and, of course, intense coding sessions to help the fellows perfect their products.

But don’t get the wrong idea; it wasn’t all work at the HackerHouse. We also made time to relax, enjoy delicious food, and have some fun together as a group. Delightedly, this made everyone get to know each other better and learn about each other's passions outside of work.

As part of their final projects, the fellows got out of their comfort zones and explored the infinite possibilities of building a decentralized future. They've come up with projects that we believe can change the future course of Web3!

Conclusion

With enough evidence to back it, we can say that the fellowship was a success, and the future of our fellows is dazzling bright.

Whether they were new to Web3 or grizzled veterans, all of the fellows stepped up and made remarkable progress in their areas of interest. They were exposed to new concepts and succeeded in developing the skills—and support—needed to implement them. By the time the fellowship ended, each one of them was eager to grow as a developer in this new space & excited to take forward the potential that Web3 holds.

This was an opportunity for them to work together, network with similar-minded people, and gain in-depth knowledge about Web3. As a sweet fruit of their diligence, they were presented with exciting job opportunities and wonderful feedback on their projects by admirers. And now, many of them are on the path to starting their own companies.

It’s impossible to express how grateful we are to have had this chance to work with a wonderful bunch of people. We are looking forward to seeing all the participating fellows skyrocket in their lives and careers.
