Water Rover :
Our Water Rovers, powered by Raspberry Pi, tackle ocean plastic pollution with an advanced net mechanism and pH sensors for water purification. Controlled via mobile app, they ensure efficient debris
The problem Water Rover : solves
● Rover Body Design: We prioritize durability and lightweight construction in the design of the
rover body, utilizing waterproof materials suited for marine environments. This design
seamlessly integrates essential hardware components, including the Raspberry Pi, motor
controller, DC motors, Bluetooth module, and other electronics, within compact compartments
for efficient navigation on water surfaces
● Escalator Net Mechanism: An innovative escalator net mechanism is implemented for efficient
debris collection from water surfaces. This mechanism seamlessly integrates into the rover body
design, ensuring optimal performance during cleanup missions.
● Hardware Connections: The Raspberry Pi is connected to the motor controller, DC motors, and
Bluetooth module (HC-05) to establish seamless communication and control. Software tools like
PuTTY facilitate remote control and monitoring, enabling real-time adjustments for efficient
operation during cleanup tasks
● Motor Control Testing: Rigorous testing is conducted to validate the rover's maneuverability and
positioning capabilities. The Raspberry Pi effectively controls the DC motors, enabling precise
movement and navigation in water environments. Bluetooth pairing with PuTTY ensures reliable
communication for remote control monitoring.
● Future Steps: Our proposed solution emphasizes fine-tuning rover operations, conducting
comprehensive field tests, and optimizing the net mechanism for maximum debris collection
efficiency. By combining advanced technology with smart design principles, we aim to address
the pressing issue of plastic pollution in water bodies effectively.
● Goal: Our proposed solution will focus on fine-tuning the rover's operations, conducting
comprehensive field tests to evaluate its performance in real-world conditions, and optimizing
the net mechanism for maximum debris collection efficiency.
Challenges we ran into
Power Supply Shortage: Lack of consistent power hindered operations, leading to disruptions in rover functionality.
Raspberry Pi Software Setup: USB cable issues caused frequent restarts, delaying software installation and configuration.
Network Connectivity Challenges: "Host not found" errors and difficulty detecting Pi board IP addresses impeded remote communication and control.
Blynk IoT Integration Issues: Pairing Bluetooth modules with varying versions posed compatibility hurdles, complicating remote rover control.
Hardware Limitations: Limited availability of hardware wires constrained the setup and connectivity of essential components.
Inactive Putty Sessions: Unresponsive Putty sessions further delayed troubleshooting and software adjustments during critical stages.
Interface Connectivity: Challenges in connecting interfaces hindered the seamless integration of components, affecting rover performance.
