The problem T.R.A.S.H.E.R solves

The problem with people is that we take public cleanliness for granted and litter in areas like bus stops and railway stations. The reason for this behaviour is that people feel they have nothing to gain by throwing things in the dustbin and nothing to lose by littering on the road. In order to curb this off-hand psychological thought process, our application offers users rewards based on the amount of garbage they dispose. The weight of the garbage thrown is directly converted into points, that the user can then use to redeem vouchers or gain some other incentives depending on the organizations that are willing to back this application.

Challenges we ran into

The hardware implementation was quite challenging, we ran into problems while callibrating the load cell as it was displaying different readings every time we restarted the microcontroller module. The MapmyIndia API, posed some problems as well. The react native support is still in its beta version and so did not aid us at all. We were facing several issues in that regard. We had to then display the map on a web browser rather than within the application.
