RIFT
Rift is a mythological action puzzle game where you control the split consciousness of an antagonist one evil, one good across two untouched realms.
The problem RIFT solves
Play a unique dual-storyline where you control both good and evil sides of the same character.
Enjoy a mix of action and puzzles in two different realms with their own challenges. Explore a mythological world with a simple but powerful story told through comic-style cutscenes. Experience a fresh take on choices where both sides grow on their own without directly affecting each other. Get inspired by the art and gameplay—great for students, game devs, and storytellers looking for something creative and different.
Rift is not just a game it’s a creative story experience with action, puzzles, and myth in balance.
Challenges we ran into
-
Unexpected Godot Bugs
During testing, the scene transitions and input handling behaved inconsistently across platforms. This was due to version-specific bugs in Godot’s rendering pipeline.
Solution: We shifted to a stable Godot LTS version and modularized our scenes to isolate bugs quickly. -
Merging Issues (Version Control)
Working with multiple contributors led to frequent scene merge conflicts, especially with .tscn files.
Solution: We adopted a structured scene naming convention, and used scene instancing instead of editing single files, reducing conflicts. -
FPS Optimization
Due to dual-realm rendering and shader effects, performance dropped on low-end devices.
Solution: We optimized assets, baked lighting, and used Level of Detail (LOD) techniques to maintain smooth gameplay. -
Time Management
Balancing storyboarding, art, programming, and testing within the Gameathon timeline was challenging.
Solution: We set up a clear task pipeline with minimal overlap and used a shared board (like Trello) for rapid progress tracking.
