PrivX Exchange
PrivX is a zkp-based decentralized order book service on Aleo platfrom. Comparing to previous works on other platforms, Privx.xyz aims to provide better user privacy protection.
The problem PrivX Exchange solves
The growing concern for privacy and security in the realm of digital asset management has brought to light the inherent vulnerabilities of centralized exchanges (CEXs). The collapse of the FTX exchange, resulting in the disappearance of billions of dollars, serves as a stark reminder of these risks. Centralized exchanges pose several threats, including:
a) Leakage of sensitive user information
b) Loss of assets due to lack of user control over private keys
c) Non-transparent and off-chain transaction processes
d) Susceptibility to cyber-attacks
In response to these challenges, there is an urgent need to address the limitations of centralized systems. Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) offer a compelling alternative, with significant advantages in privacy, transparency, security, and autonomy:
a) Users maintain and control over their wallets and private keys
b) On-chain transactions with transparent and traceable logic
c) Enhanced security and resilience compared to CEXs
PrivX has selected Aleo as the development platform for our innovative DEX, primarily due to Aleo's exceptional on-chain privacy protection. Aleo's zero-knowledge proof technology allows users to conceal account balances, transaction activities, and other sensitive information while executing transactions, thereby ensuring robust privacy protection.
Following the Aleo infrastructure update, PrivX will migrate order placement and matching logic on-chain to fully ensure fairness, transparency, and accessibility of transaction data and matching logic.
Challenges we ran into
PrivX leverages Aleo's ZEXE protocol to fulfill two primary objectives: efficient validation and user privacy protection. The efficient validation mechanism employs off-chain computing techniques to verify transactions on-chain, thereby enhancing the system's overall performance. Moreover, PrivX's cutting-edge technology offers selective privacy protection for users and transaction data, surpassing the capabilities of ZCash's privacy protocols. Moving forward, PrivX plans to incorporate zkCloud's off-chain and trustless computing, facilitating contract computations off-chain and generating proofs on-chain. This strategy will optimize computing performance and strengthen security measures while preserving user privacy.
Despite their advantages, DEXs face certain drawbacks in terms of transaction performance and liquidity compared to centralized solutions. To address these issues, PrivX has developed a unique mechanism that combines the liquidity and user experience of CEXs with the transparency of DEXs. We are proud to introduce the first privacy order book DEX, featuring an unparalleled on-chain privacy protection mechanism on the Aleo platform.
As Aleo's on-chain infrastructure is currently under development, PrivX employs an off-chain server for order matching during test-net phases. As Aleo progresses, PrivX will integrate order matching into on-chain smart contracts, fostering a fully decentralized service supporting the entire life cycle of placing, matching, and fulfilling orders. In the future, with Aleo's decentralized privacy computing (DPC) and proxy ZKP computing model, PrivX will further decrease transaction computation and on-chain time, achieving faster transaction speed and improved availability.
