LegalLedger - Blockchain In Judicial System

LegalLedger is an end-to-end decentralized solution to conduct court proceedings online in much safer, secure and tamper-proof manner to make the case files storage process effective and easier.

The problem LegalLedger - Blockchain In Judicial System solves

Our proposed decentralized user-friendly web application "LegalLedger" would store the record of all the court case related documents - evidence files, Roznama, Vakalatnama, video recordings in the ethereum blockchain. Our target customers are the courts of our country where in the judges and lawyers can use our software solution to carry out the case proceedings virtually in a much safer, secure and tamper-proof manner without using any other centralized third party applications. Currently, the online court proceedings in India are taking place using some third party platforms and thus it poses a security hazard and are prone to hacking and misuse. Hence, leveraging blockchain technology in our software solution makes the entire end-to-end process completely easy-to-use and tamper proof which would also help to reduce the vast number of pending cases in our judiciary. We aim to streamline the entire process for our users(Admin,Lawyers,Judges) to take care of evidence and look them up whenever needed and to create transparency in the Chain of Custody by maintaining the security of these files. These files are uploaded to the Inter-Planetary File System and the returned hash values are encrypted using Base64 algorithm and are stored in the blockchain. Thus our solution is an attempt to achieve the whole purpose of building a decentralised application which is to remove a sort of central authority which governs over all the data associated with this application and makes it even more secure and trust worthy for judiciary by avoiding any type of penetration and fabrication attacks.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to understand how the online court proceedings and evidence filing procedure works but due to lack of resources online we were skeptical as to how to analyse this step.
To solve this hurdle, we later contacted a resource person working in this field to get the entire details pertaining to evidence filing and case proceedings to get insights about the current problems being faced by them so that we can focus on solving them as well.
