The problem Flow Mentor solves

There are so many social platform where people can connect with each other. But they are not real friends or real connections. One of the bigger issue is knowing them and learning from them. Having a mentor can make life very easier. A person who has climbed a mountain in 100 hours can tell you the way to climb the same mountain in 50 hours and with better technique.

Our ultimate goal is to create an interactive platform that revolutionizes the way people connect and share knowledge, envisioning it to become the next big thing in the realm of social media, akin to the impact of platforms like Twitter or LinkedIn.

Currently, there are platforms that offer mentorship opportunities; however, these platforms often come with high fees that can be unaffordable for many individuals. In some cases, even a fresh professional who possesses a modest level of knowledge can be highly valuable to a student. With our vision to create a more accessible platform, we aim to connect students, working professionals, and entrepreneurs with mentors who can provide guidance and support. Our platform strives to facilitate meaningful mentor-mentee relationships, empowering individuals to both seek guidance. Real Ratings which are on blockchain, Document on IPFS and easy cross border payments.

Our platform is built on the principles of transparency, utilizing smart contracts deployed on the Flow blockchain. A minimal platform fee is defined within these smart contracts to ensure fairness and clarity. Each meet request is managed through a smart contract, which acts as an escrow account. When a mentee submits a meet request, the corresponding payment is held in the escrow account. Upon acceptance of the meet request by the mentor and a successful meeting, the payment is transferred from the escrow account to the mentor's account, following the mentee's feedback. This ensures a secure and reliable payment process, fostering trust and accountability within our platform.

Challenges we ran into

Learning flow and cadence programming language was quite new for us. It was completely new and challenging. We decided the feature and flow of application but where to start the development was new.

Documentation and youtube channel of flow helped alot. We were able to understand cadence language. Learned to use flow playground to write smart contract. Looked and read nextjs github on flow.

We faced issue with emulator and dev-wallet where we were using the old command to run the emulator and wallet at once. Discord Community helped in that case and we found a solution over there to run our emulator and dev-wallet.

Being with the new in flow blockchain, faced issue while invoking the transaction from the UI we had a hard time to understand, how to pass the parameters into the smart contract functions.
