Globally popular K-pop, which is causing a huge sensation not only in Korea but also around the world, has seen members like Kim Chaewon and Sakura of LE SSERAFIM debut through an idol survival competition program called 'Produce 48'. This program, which live-streamed various idol trainees competing on stage and allowed viewers to directly vote on the participants' elimination and survival, attracted significant attention due to its unique format.
However, the program became embroiled in controversy due to malicious vote manipulation by the centralized broadcasting station. To solve this issue, we devised a voting system utilizing tokens. This system is based on blockchain technology and aims to ensure transparency, fairness, and decentralization. Through this, we aim to create an environment where all participants can compete fairly.
Moreover, the conventional K-pop idol market utilized a Web2-based revenue structure that generated profits by exploiting the emotions of fans. Fans do not hesitate to support their favorite idols, spending a considerable amount of money in the process. Despite fans contributing positively to the ecosystem, this structure encourages them to incur more expenses, which we believed was not suitable for a healthy ecosystem.
Based on these issues, we created a platform that offers tokens as rewards to actively participating community members. This encourages participants to contribute positively to the community and receive corresponding rewards, promoting active participation and the creation of a healthy ecosystem by all members.
With the introduction of blockchain technology, all voting and reward systems are transparently managed. This allows all participants to trust the fairness of the system and fundamentally blocks the possibility of malicious manipulation or fraud. Additionally, the decentralized nature will enable new forms of interaction unseen in the traditional entertainment industry.
Our project, aimed at implementing a transparent and fair voting system using blockchain technology, faced several challenges. However, by communicating with the blockchain community, we were able to obtain valuable feedback and ultimately resolve these issues.
We also encountered difficulties in communication within the team. Focusing solely on individual tasks sometimes led us to lose sight of the overall direction of the project. To address this, we restructured our git repository to utilize submodules and held regular meetings.
Technical problem-solving posed another significant challenge. We conducted compatibility tests with various networks to resolve latency issues in the blockchain network and made several improvements to the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) after actively collecting user feedback. This allowed us to develop a user-friendly voting system.
Actively utilizing external resources and tools was also a great help to the project. Using open-source libraries and APIs helped reduce development time and contributed to providing a more stable service.
Through all these processes, we relearned the importance of teamwork and supporting each other as key to the success of the project. Regular communication and feedback allowed us to continuously monitor the progress of the project and make necessary adjustments swiftly.
Despite many challenges and difficulties, the project was successfully completed through the team's efforts and cooperation. This experience will be a valuable asset for undertaking larger projects in the future.
Through this project, our team grew not just in technical achievements but in collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills in various aspects.
