Coinbase Smart Passport solves two major problems: The trust score of Coinbase Smart Wallet and recurring identity payments
The Coinbase Smart Wallet is a new wallet that launched just a few days ago. However, most crypto enthusiasts already have their personal EOA wallets connected to trusted identity providers, and these providers often don't allow multiple wallets to prevent sybil behavior. This leaves the Coinbase Smart Wallet untrusted and limits its use cases.
Just like how you trust a friend more if you know they have good friends too, we want to connect the Coinbase Smart Wallet to well-known identity providers and social networks. This way, everyone knows it's trusted.
Our project enhances the Coinbase Smart Wallet by integrating it with various identity platforms including ENS, Coinbase ID (cb.id), Gitcoin Passport, and Coinbase KYC Verification, as well as social accounts like Twitter, Discord, and GitHub. This integration makes onboarding easier and boosts trust in the Coinbase Smart Wallet. DApps can use this data to verify the trustworthiness of a particular smart wallet.
For payment problems, services like ENS require manual yearly payments of $5 without automatic renewal reminders via email or SMS. Users must remember the expiration dates and manually renew their domains. As a result, many users lose their domain names due to forgetfulness.
By integrating with Stripe, our project allows automatic credit card payments, enhancing user convenience. In the future, with support for recurring payments in Coinbase Smart Wallet, users can set up automated payments, ensuring seamless and hassle-free transactions. This initiative aligns with the Payments Track's goal of improving payment system accessibility, efficiency and user experience in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
