In India, shagun gifts are given as a mark of goodwill during festivals, weddings, and other occasions(We all love the little ones in our families <3). While this tradition thrives in the physical world, sending digital assets like Ethereum is often complicated for non-technical users. BasedShagun solves this problem by making it easy for users to send crypto in a culturally familiar and secure manner. By leveraging Base, users can effortlessly specify recipients by their Base names, allowing for secure, verifiable transactions that feel accessible and simple—bringing the best of the old world into the digital age.

Base Name Integration: Incorporating Base names into the process of gifting was both a challenge and an opportunity. We wanted the process to feel as natural as writing a name on an envelope for a traditional gift. The most significant challenge was making sure that recipients could sign in using their Base name without confusion.
While building we found out that there was no officially supported way to get wallet addresses from Base names in the existing architecture provided by OnchainKit. This was a huge problem as our dapp heavily relies on Base names.
We solved this by parsing the huge HTML we got from the request we sent to basescan to get the wallet address that made giving shaguns possible!

Cultural Appropriateness: Designing for Indian users meant understanding the cultural nuances of gifting. We had to ensure the app was simple enough for a wide demographic, including those who may not be familiar with blockchain technology, while still respecting the traditional values of gifting.
