Together, We can end Hunger!

The problem AaharSajha solves

Food insecurity is indeed a global issue. There is always a hidden connection between food waste and hunger. Excess food from various food outlets and houses feeds bins instead of needy people.Despite adequate food production, the UN has reported that about 190 million Indians remain undernourished. It is further estimated that the value of food wastage in India is around ₹92,000 crores per annum. The Covid-19 pandemic not only exposed the problems of food waste but also compounded them.In the wake of the lockdown imposed last year, surplus stocks of grain — pegged at 65 lakh tonnes in the first four months of 2020 — continued to rot in godowns across India.Access to food became extremely scarce for the poor, especially daily-wage laborers.Food wastage in India happens at different levels — harvesting, transporting, processing, packaging and consuming. Our major focus is at consuming level. Weddings, events, restaurants, hostels and houses are a major source for food wastage of cooked food.So the solution that we have come up with is .Firstly, we introduced Hunger zones are the areas where the hungry and poor people live in the community. These spots can be slums, orphanages, shelter homes, homeless people in the streets etc.Making these hunger zone data available to the user will help them to share the food easily where the user can find the nearest hunger zone details in that. This, in turn, helps the user to donate the food quickly. Secondly, Food is a delicate commodity as it always expires. Few inputs from the donor will greatly help the Volunteers and moderators. we have identified initial level info required of the donor
1.Title of the post
2.meal timing
3.item preparation timing
4.meal type
5.adding volunteer support details
Thirdly, We thought of using a reward based system for the donors and the volunteers i.e. they will be rewarded with coins after every donation. As charity is a noble act and every one should get recognition so we thought of using a leade

Challenges we ran into

  1. Internet problem : While building a product, you will surely require a lot of research about the theme, the idea, your proposed solution to the problem statement, the technologies you will be using, of course solutions to the bugs that you would encounter.
  2. You have very limited time to plan, develop and test your product. Hackathons generally last for 36-48 hours, so you need to be pretty quick in terms of execution, as every second counts.
  3. Integration of current location of the users using GPS system.
  4. Integration of google map in Next.js was difficult due to unavailability of proper documentation.
