Meet the new ‘Dev’-Folio: Your Portfolio and Proof-of-Work Hub

Building projects is exhilarating, but conveying that passion in a portfolio? A different ballgame altogether. As builders ourselves, we understand this struggle.

Meet the new ‘Dev’-Folio: Your Portfolio and Proof-of-Work Hub

The Road to the New Devfolio Profile

Back in 2018, as a hackathon platform, we built the first version of the Devfolio Profile to give builders a dedicated space to showcase their hackathon projects. A few months in, we started noticing builders sharing their Devfolio Profile and projects with potential employers/collaborators to showcase their proof of work.

Seeing this, we asked ourselves one simple question: How can builders showcase their work, which is spread across different platforms, in a holistic manner? The answer was right in front of us. The Devfolio Profile could be something much bigger and much better! And we decided to go for it.

We expanded our efforts to help builders learn and create proof of work—launching fellowships and grant programs, and organizing large-scale hackathons, like the world’s largest Ethereum hackathon ;) And we didn't stop there. We added a bunch of cool features to the platform: Quadratic Voting, Cheer, and Onchain Credentials.

All these initiatives have generated a lot of proof of work on Devfolio, and our original Profile couldn’t keep up anymore.

So here we are. We don’t just want to help you create proof of work through various initiatives. We also want to help you display it in the best possible way through your Devfolio Profile.

The New ‘Dev’-Folio: Your Holistic Developer Story

Ask yourself this: What link do you share when someone asks for your proof of work? If you don’t have your own website, which is time-consuming to build and needs to be constantly updated, we’re pretty sure it’ll be hard to answer.

LinkedIn? Does it capture much beyond titles? GitHub? No matter how green those squares are, do they tell your whole story? A million other resume platforms that were never genuinely made for developers?

Your Devfolio Profile will be none of these things and everything you want it to be (quite literally because it’s currently in beta and continually improving based on your feedback).
The first screen you see while getting onboarded to your new Devfolio Profile :)

Your new Devfolio Profile is the portfolio you need to tell your story holistically—showcasing not just your projects and skills but also your journey, your growth, and your passion for building. Crafted by builders for builders, your new Profile will capture all the challenges you've faced and milestones you've smashed.

Let’s unpack your Devfolio Profile

Your Devfolio Profile will combine your work from platforms like GitHub, Hashnode, Medium, etc., with your Devfolio native/side projects, hackathon wins, fellowships completed, grants received, and more—telling your story as you might narrate it.

Here’s a breakdown of the features:

GitHub Integration: Connect your GitHub account and let your code do the talking. Your profile will display your public repositories, monthly summaries of commits, code reviews, and pull requests.

Import your articles: Connect your blogs from platforms like Medium, RSS, and Hashnode. Give recruiters and fellow developers a peek into your thought process and what inspires you.

Onchain Credentials: Showcase your onchain achievements in public. Your Profile will display your onchain proof of work - Cheers received and sent, Onchain Credentials claimed, hackathons won, and much more.

Work Experience: Share your previous and current work experience. Tell everyone about the projects you worked on, the impact you made, and the problems you solved.

Project Spotlight: Curate the projects you want to showcase front and centre, be it a side quest or a hackathon project you’re proud of.

Readme.md: Use the Readme section to tell the world anything you want! Whether you're an engineer by day and a poet by night or have a knack for juggling flaming torches, let your tribe find you. It's your blank canvas, with markdown support to write your story.

What’s next on the Devfolio Profile?

  • We'll be rolling out access to the Devfolio Profile to all users in the coming weeks.
  • An interactive timeline will let you and everyone track your progress. You’ll be able to share your journey with a timeline that fetches updates from your connected accounts (GitHub history, Medium posts updates, etc.).
  • Customization will go a step further (moar-widgets-ftw). You’ll be able to add notes and photos to your profile and arrange the sections.
  • Link your custom domain to your Devfolio profile, for example, https://pre.et/.
  • Track non-Devfolio Onchain Activity via the wallet connected to your account.
  • And whatever you want to be next! Get on a call with us to share your thoughts.
