“An immersive AR experience of buying wrist watches”

The problem WatchAR solves

The Project WatchAR gives the user a deeper dive into the future by engaging them through an Augmented Reality Experience.

We have developed this app under two broad themes of the hackathon - Augmented Reality and Open Innovation.

  • So basically what the app does is, it gives the user an immersive experience of ‘seeing-before-buying’ through the Augmented Reality technology embedded into the app. This app is an idea which the ‘Wrist Watch’ companies or other industries might use in the future to market their products to the public by giving them a life-like experience of the product before they actually buy it.

  • It also solves one more problem which is following the COVID protocols, this app would help avoid the unnecessary over touching and trying of wrist watches at markets and shops. You can first see it visually on your wrist and if you like it then try it and wear it.

To run the app a user needs to scan our particular “image-target” (which is the advertisement of the wrist watch company, created by us in our case). Then the user needs to click on the AR button and observe the appeared wrist watches. The user can then view the wrist watch and even augment it on his/her wrist and see how it might look when they buy it in real life.

NOTE -

The entire 3D models of wrist watches are rendered and augmented into the app through cloud platform echoAR which helps in making the app consume less storage and update it quicker.

The image recognition takes place through the Vuforia which is A popular AR SDK and provides computer vision technology to recognize and track 3D objects in real time.

This Project is a prototype developed during the hackathon time period of 36hrs, so in no way is this a fully developed app just a concept idea of telling how the shopping might look like in the future using Augmented Reality.

Challenges we ran into

  • Image Tracking and recognition of the advertisement which we created.
  • 3D rendering of the mode from cloud to Unity Engine.
  • Positioning and Sizing of the 3D model of the wrist watch so that it looks appropriate and is visible clearly.
