The problem ZapPay solves
AI agents are starting to use x402 to make autonomous payments but they lack key safeguards like refund handling, fraud detection, and manual oversight, making transactions risky or irreversible.
ZapPay solves this by adding a secure layer for agent-driven payments:

Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was that the normal refund logic for payment gateways doesn’t work. Traditional systems rely on filters to detect and block bots but AI agents behave like bots by design, which makes it extremely hard to distinguish between a legitimate AI purchase and a malicious one.
This made the AI/ML design very challenging, as I had to rethink how refunds, fraud detection, and behavioral analysis should work when the buyer is an autonomous AI agent, not a human.
We also faced difficulties in obtaining high-quality data for our ML service, so we eventually relied on Kaggle datasets to build our initial models.
Another major hurdle was developing the analysis engine, especially figuring out how to determine weightage between different risk signals. Most of these challenges stemmed from the uncertainty of working in a completely new AI-agent-driven payment environment.
