Loans Repaid by Yield—No Interest, No Liquidation
The problem YiFy Finance solves
The Liquidity Trap in Productive Assets
In the current DeFi landscape, billions of dollars are locked in productive assets like Voting Escrow NFTs (veNFTs) and Real World Assets (RWAs). Owners of these assets face a dilemma: they are "Asset Rich but Cash Poor." To access liquidity, they are often forced to sell their assets, losing both ownership and future passive income streams. Traditional lending protocols do not solve this because they require liquid tokens and carry high liquidation risks due to price volatility.
YiFy: Liquidity Without Liquidation
YiFy Finance solves this by allowing users to borrow against their yield-bearing assets (veNFTs & RWAs) without selling them. Our protocol introduces a novel "Self-Repaying Loan" mechanism.
Key Benefits:
- Zero Interest Loans: Users can access capital cost-free.
- No Monthly Payments: The loan is repaid automatically using the yield generated by the collateral.
- Zero Liquidation Risk: Unlike traditional protocols that liquidate you when asset prices drop, YiFy relies on yield coverage. As long as the asset is productive, your collateral is safe from forced selling.
- Unlocking Illiquid Value: We transform illiquid assets (like locked veAERO or Tokenized Property) into active, usable capital (USDC).
Challenges I ran into
Designing a Yield-Based Valuation Engine One of the biggest hurdles was creating a fair valuation model for illiquid assets like veNFTs. Unlike ERC-20 tokens, these NFTs don't have a simple spot price on Uniswap.
How do we calculate LTV (Loan-to-Value) safely without a liquid market price?
**The Solution: **We built a custom Valuation Engine that calculates value based on projected yield, lock duration, and historical APR data from Oracles (Pyth). This allows us to issue loans based on the asset's productivity rather than just its speculative price.
Simulation & Testing Complex Flows During the development of our TestFlow scripts on the Lisk Sepolia testnet, we encountered issues with the mock environment. Specifically, we faced ERC20InsufficientBalance errors where our Mock Reward Distributors ran out of funds during automated repayment simulations.
**The Fix: **We had to write a specific Foundry script to automate the minting and funding process for our protocol actors. This taught us the importance of rigorously simulating the "economic flow" of the protocol, not just the code logic, to ensure the self-repaying mechanism works flawlessly in a live environment.
