🚌 The Problem It Solves:
Public and government bus systems in India remain largely disconnected from modern digital infrastructure. Unlike private ride-hailing services, most public buses lack live tracking, online ticketing, or real-time passenger information. This leads to several challenges for both commuters and drivers:
🔍 Lack of real-time bus tracking, causing uncertainty and long waiting times. 🧭 No route discovery or suggestions based on starting and ending points. 💳 No digital ticketing, which makes the process inconvenient and cash-dependent. 🧑✈️ Drivers have no visibility of who is onboarded or where passengers intend to get off. 🧮 Manual ticketing leads to errors, mismanagement, and revenue leaks. 🚶♂️ No passenger analytics or stop-wise data that can help improve planning and safety.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges I Ran Into:
Building YatraX was both exciting and technically demanding. Here are some of the key challenges we faced:
🛰️ 1. Real-Time Location Integration
Implementing live GPS tracking for both users and buses was one of the most complex parts. The challenge was syncing location data from multiple devices (passenger and driver) in real time, while ensuring smooth performance across varying network conditions.
🔄 2. Dynamic QR Scan & Driver Dashboard Sync
We had to ensure that once a passenger scanned the QR and boarded, the driver’s dashboard instantly reflected that data with correct destination info.
🧾 3. Ticketing Without Conductors
One major hurdle was designing the logic to replace human conductors with automation without compromising ticket validation and tracking.
🛡️ 4. UI/UX Balance Between Passenger & Driver Panel
Designing an interface that is intuitive for general users, but also efficient for bus drivers (who need minimal distractions) was challenging.
