The Problem It Solves
VENT solves the problem of unstable, complex, and inaccessible digital gifting.
Traditional gift cards lose value, lack transparency, and can’t move across platforms.
Crypto gifting is volatile, requires technical know-how, and isn’t user-friendly for non-crypto users.
No persistent identity exists to track gifting history, loyalty, or trust.
Onboarding to crypto is difficult for newcomers without an easy entry point.
Gift cards usually require trading/reselling if not useful, causing friction and lost value.
How People Use It
Individuals: Instantly send stable USDC gift cards to friends/family with just a QR code — no volatility, no complex wallet setup, and no need to resell or trade unused cards.
Businesses: Generate bulk branded gift cards, reward customers with loyalty points, and track redemption with analytics.
Communities: Share gift drops, build trust scores, and connect socially through a persistent on-chain profile.
New Users: Receive their first USDC gift card and onboard seamlessly into Web3 without friction.
How It Makes Tasks Easier & Safer
Easier: One scan transfers stable USDC gifts with guaranteed 1:1 USD value. No volatility, no learning curve, and no wasted cards that need secondary trading.
Safer: Backed by smart contracts on Base, with enterprise-grade security ( timelocks, blacklist protection).
Smarter: Persistent profiles create transparent histories and trust layers, making gifting and trading more reliable.
Onboarding-Friendly: Gifting becomes a simple, familiar gateway for new users to join crypto safely and quickly.
Challenges I ran into
Building this project came with a few key hurdles:
Building Solo: As a solo builder, I had to manage design, development, and testing by myself. By the aid of AI, I was able to speed up research, debug issues, and structure the project more efficiently.
Learning Base Documentation: Understanding and applying the Base network documentation was initially challenging, especially when integrating smart contracts and ensuring smooth USDC flows. I overcame this by breaking the docs into smaller chunks, testing frequently on testnet, and leveraging AI to clarify concepts and generate examples.
Timing: Balancing limited hackathon time with ambitious features was tough. I focused on shipping a functional MVP first, then layered in advanced features like QR gifting and user profiles.
Mainnet Migration: I didn't do the testnet, I jumped into mainnet because i was late in the registry and required handling gas costs, contract verification, and ensuring everything worked in real conditions. Careful testing, incremental deployment, and AI-assisted debugging helped smooth this process.
Each challenge made the project stronger by forcing me to simplify, test thoroughly, and focus on the features that matter most.
