High-Intent Scheduling Prevent No-Shows
The problem 0xCAL solves
Free is a magnet for flakes. You offer a free mentorship slot out of the goodness of your heart, and the mentee treats it like a "maybe" on a Facebook event.
0xCAL help to reduce No-show on every booking session you made, Commitment Fee is refundable but the respect is mandatory.
The Problem
The "I’ll Be There" is a Lie. You as mentor staring at your own reflection in a Zoom window for 15 minutes. People booking "just in case" and then ghosting because there are zero consequences. Mentors get cynical, serious mentees get blocked by spammers, and the world loses a little bit of magic.
The Solution: Skin In The Game
We’ve added a simple accountability layer to the booking process:
- Mentees secure their spot with a "Commitment Fee" (e.g., 15K IDRX).
- The mentoring session happens. Value is shared. High fives all around.
- Once the mentor confirms attendance, the deposit can be claim back by mentee.
- If the mentee misses the window without canceling, the deposit is forfeited and goes to mentor. Simple. Fair. Effective.
Challenges I ran into
Timezone issues make it challenging to create future schedules, especially when either the mentor or the mentee lives in a region that observes Daylight Saving Time (DST).
Designing a system that is fair to everyone is difficult. Our platform places a significant amount of trust in mentors. When a mentor acts unfairly—such as not acknowledging that a mentee attended a session—the only option we currently have is manual intervention.
As mentioned earlier, mentees are in a weaker position, and it remains challenging to design a system that is truly fair for all parties.
