The current Web3 communities based on different Metaverses are imaginary, barely customizable and centralized.
Thankfully, we are not doing that. W3Space is building hyper-community spaces.
In order to do so, we are building W3Space as a fully customizable space for communities, with complete ownership and control; a home where community culture is created and strengthened by all community members; an open-world Metaverse where communities connect and expand.
We had been struggling to find our orientation for a while. W3Space, formerly known as W3work, was created to meet the needs of remote working. However, after consulting our users one-on-one, we found that Metaverse was not an effective way to work remotely. That's when we decided to pivot.
We attempted to build W3work as a B2B tool, where people could have both formal and casual business meetings. Our marketing team was able to connect with many Web3 project founders, and the path to serve as a place for hyper communities became clearer.
The development process encountered two main issues:
To address the first problem, we investigated WebRTC SFU (Server-side Multiplexing) and WebRTC MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) technologies.
For social meetings and Poap collection, we employed smart contracts based on Ethereum to ensure participants could safely join meetings and receive Poap securely.
Additionally, we implemented a secure encryption algorithm to guarantee user privacy and data security.
