Why are you participating for Based SEA?

I am involved in Based SEA because I strongly believe in the power of decentralized communities to solve critical problems, such as the protection of wild and urban animals. The Southeast Asian region faces a crisis in biodiversity conservation and the protection of endangered species. This challenge is closely linked to rapid urbanization, illegal animal trade, and the lack of resources for effective conservation initiatives. My motivation is to contribute to these solutions by creating a decentralized system that allows collaboration and funding of projects that protect wildlife in the region. Wild Warriors DAO seeks to generate a tangible impact, not only by protecting animals but also by educating communities and fostering a new mindset of respect for the natural environment.

Southeast Asia is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, home to unique species that urgently need protection. My connection to the region lies in the passion for conserving this natural heritage and the belief that blockchain technology can be a powerful instrument to ensure participation and transparency in the protection of these species. My goal is to build connections between local and global organizations and ensure that resources reach those who need them most to protect the environment.

What challenges are you focusing on?

We are focused on addressing several critical challenges related to the protection of urban and wild animals. One of the main problems is the lack of identification and traceability, which leads to massive abandonment of pets, the difficulty in recovering lost animals, and the illegal trafficking of protected species. These problems are deeply rooted in the region, affecting both domestic pets in urban areas and wildlife in rural and jungle areas.

In cities, thousands of dogs and cats are abandoned, which not only affects their well-being, but also creates public health problems. The lack of an efficient identification and registration system makes it easy for these animals to fall into oblivion. In parallel, in jungle and rural areas, poaching threatens the balance of ecosystems and endangers species that are vital to biodiversity.

Our DAO aims to address these challenges through a decentralized blockchain-based system that allows the digital identification of animals. This system will ensure that every animal, whether an urban pet or a wild species, has a unique and traceable identity, facilitating its protection and safeguarding. Using smart contracts and NFTs, we will create immutable and transparent records that provide the traceability necessary to locate the owners of lost pets and monitor endangered species.

Additionally, the DAO will allow members to vote on the best strategies and projects to implement, driving community solutions to these problems. We focus on creating alliances with NGOs, animal shelters, and local governments to ensure that our efforts have a tangible impact in the region.

The potential impact of our project is enormous: from reducing pet abandonment to preserving endangered species, Wild Warriors DAO has the ability to transform the way we interact with and protect animals. This will not only improve the well-being of species, but will also contribute to a more balanced and sustainable ecosystem.

How does your submission address this challenge?

Our project, Wild Warriors DAO, addresses the challenge of animal protection and conservation through a decentralized, blockchain-based structure. We have developed a platform that allows wild and urban animals to be registered and monitored through unique IDs on the blockchain. This ensures traceability and tracking of animals, facilitating protection against illegal trafficking, abandonment, and loss.

Through the DAO, members can propose and vote on animal protection and conservation initiatives, allowing for participatory management. Using smart contracts, we automate the processes of animal adoption and care, ensuring that all transactions are transparent and secure. Our potential impact is huge: we can empower communities to actively participate in animal protection, while creating a global system that rewards members for their commitment and active participation.

The platform also connects with local shelters and NGOs to ensure that urban animals receive proper treatment and adoptions are well documented. Additionally, in wilderness areas, we work with conservation organizations to protect endangered species by funding community-based initiatives.

Challenges I ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was integrating blockchain technology in a context where digital access is limited. Many animal shelters and conservation organizations lack the infrastructure necessary to adapt to decentralized systems. To overcome this, we created a more accessible version of our platform that allows organizations to register and track animals without having to fully implement blockchain solutions. By using simplified smart contracts and creating an intuitive interface, we made it easy to adopt our technology without requiring deep technical knowledge.

Another challenge was the resistance to adopting new technologies in the conservation community. Often, these organizations are focused on their traditional methodologies. To overcome this, we have established strategic alliances with local NGOs that already have experience in animal protection. Together, we organize educational workshops to show how technology can improve their operations and increase their impact.

In addition, we faced technical obstacles related to the scalability of the project. To solve these, we implemented scalability technologies such as sidechains and off-chain computing techniques to reduce operational costs without compromising security.

Additional Features

Wild Warriors DAO was established to merge animal protection and web3 technology, creating an active community that promotes the identity and well-being of wild and urban animals. Before the Buildathon, we already had an organizational model and a focus on traceability and safety for animals through blockchain. In addition, we initiated offchain collaborations with ONGs, state organizations, local municipalities to ensure a positive impact in the region.
