Why are you participating for Based Africa?
We’re participating in Based Africa to create a product that can truly impact and uplift the lives of our neighbors, using technology to drive radical improvements in daily life. Being based in Ghana and Nigeria, we face real challenges of survival every day, which gives us a deep sense of purpose as we build. Winning this buildathon would not only ease some of the financial pressures we face, but it would also give us the freedom to focus on bringing people onchain and empowering others in our community. At the core, our team is simply excited to be building—this is what drives us, and we’re passionate about creating solutions that matter.
What challenges are you focusing on?
We are focused on solving a critical issue within the KEKE(keh-keh) driver community, where most drivers do not own the vehicles they use, instead paying daily fees to vehicle owners in a cycle that prevents them from saving or progressing toward ownership. This exploitative dynamic keeps drivers financially stagnant, with no opportunity for growth or independence. The system is largely unstructured, relying on informal, in-person interactions that do not translate into long-term benefits like savings, credit access, or asset-building. Despite being a large, young, and ambitious group, the drivers lack pathways to self-sufficiency or collective organization to improve their financial outcomes.
How does your submission address this challenge?
Our solution, the 3 Wheel Bike Club, addresses the challenges faced by KEKE drivers by introducing a decentralized, membership-based system designed to empower drivers with financial independence and ownership opportunities. Through this platform, drivers can join as members, build their reputation by making regular payments, and contribute to a community treasury. The treasury, managed collectively, would fund personal loans, vehicle purchases, and a shared pool for vehicle maintenance, helping members gradually move toward ownership. By leveraging blockchain, Base names, Ethereum attestations, and onchain tracking—we ensure transparency and security in how payments, reputations, and community resources are organized and verified. This decentralized system fosters trust, improves fairness, and empowers drivers with access to financial support and ownership opportunities, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that addresses the exploitative dynamic and lack of structure in the current system.
Challenges we ran into
Our team faced significant challenges throughout the buildathon, but our resilience and determination helped us push through. Early on, our lead developer, was struck with a severe illness, which was a major setback for us. His absence created a gap in our technical progress, but the team adapted and pushed forward, and thankfully, made a full recovery just in time for the final stretch. Another major challenge we encountered was with integrating basename minting directly into our platform at 3wb.club. We wanted to ensure a seamless user experience by allowing users to mint basenames on our platform without having to visit basename.org separately. This integration posed unexpected technical difficulties, but through collaboration and problem-solving(Thank you Jesse, and Tim), we were able to overcome the challenge and deliver a smooth, user-friendly experience. These obstacles tested our team's resolve, but they also showcased our ability to stay focused, adapt, and innovate under pressure.
