Challenges I ran into

Building Watch Portal came with its own set of technical and design hurdles:

1. Data Aggregation Across Multiple Sources

Problem: Pulling live data (apps, bounties, quests, and news) from different APIs and protocols was inconsistent. Some APIs lacked proper documentation or returned data in different formats.

Solution: We built a normalization layer that standardizes incoming data before rendering it on the frontend, ensuring smooth integration across sources.

2. Scalability & Performance

Problem: Handling real-time updates for bounties and on-chain events without slowing down the user experience.

Solution: Implemented caching strategies and used efficient queries to reduce redundant calls, keeping the app lightweight and responsive.

3. Web3 Wallet & On-chain Integration

Problem: Integrating seamless wallet connection and transaction handling, especially for users new to Web3. Errors during signing and failed transactions were common early on.

Solution: We added clearer error handling, fallback flows, and simplified the UX so even first-time users could connect and interact safely.

4. UI/UX Complexity

Problem: With so many features (apps, quests, challenges, news), the portal risked becoming cluttered and overwhelming.

Solution: We introduced a modular card-based design, making each feature easy to browse, search, and interact with, without losing clarity.

5. Deployment & Reliability

Problem: Initial deployments faced downtime and broken builds due to dependency mismatches and versioning issues.

Solution: Automated CI/CD pipelines with strict version locks and preview deployments via Vercel helped us catch errors early.

✅ Takeaway: Each challenge pushed us to refine our approach. By focusing on data normalization, performance optimization, better UX, and reliable deployment, Watch Portal grew into a more stable and user-friendly hub for the Farcaster and Web3 ecosystem.
