Empowering Women, Redefining Independence!

The problem Vritti solves

India is a land of immense potential, yet millions of skilled women remain trapped in a cycle of underemployment or unemployment due to structural, societal, and economic barriers. The problem is not a lack of talent but a lack of opportunities and platforms that recognize and monetize these skills. Here's an in-depth look at the problem:

  1. Skills Undermined by Patriarchy
Many women possess extraordinary talents—be it in cooking, tailoring, handicrafts, or beauty services.
However, societal norms often relegate these skills to the background, treating them as hobbies rather than viable sources of income.
  2. Lack of Market Access
Women, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, have limited exposure to marketplaces or networks where they can showcase their talents.
The absence of formal platforms means their skills never reach a broader audience or generate sustainable income.
  3. Digital and Economic Exclusion
The digital revolution has opened doors for employment, but women often remain on the sidelines due to:
Low digital literacy, making it difficult to use online platforms or get introduced to relevant platforms.
Social restrictions on women’s use of technology.
  4. Mobility and Safety Concerns
Restricted mobility due to cultural norms and safety concerns prevent many women from working outside their homes or traveling long distances for work.
This leads to a significant portion of the female workforce remaining untapped.
  5. Financial Dependence
A lack of financial independence not only limits women’s personal choices but also hinders their ability to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
Women’s unemployment also perpetuates gender inequality, reinforcing patriarchal power structures.
  6. Economic Consequences of Gender Gaps
Studies show that increasing women’s participation in the workforce could add billions to India’s GDP.
The absence of opportunities for women directly affects the country’s economic growth and social progress.

Challenges we ran into

Building Vritti to address the needs of Indian women has been both exciting and challenging. Here are the key obstacles we encountered and our strategies to overcome them:

  1. User Authentication and Security
Challenge: Ensuring a safe and secure platform where women and clients can interact without fear of fraud or misuse.
    Solution:
Implementing robust verification processes for both users and service providers.
Using two-factor authentication and regular system audits to protect user data.
  2. Digital Accessibility
Challenge: Many potential users have low digital literacy or lack familiarity with apps and online platforms.
    Solution:
Designing a highly intuitive and minimalistic user interface.
Incorporating visual cues (like icons and step-by-step guidance) to assist first-time users.
  3. Scalability
Challenge: Developing a system that can handle a growing number of users, services, and transactions.
    Solution:
Using scalable technologies such as React.js, Node.js, and MongoDB to ensure seamless growth.
Conducting load testing regularly to identify and fix bottlenecks.
  4. Local Outreach and Market Penetration
Challenge: Connecting women with clients in their local communities while building a larger marketplace.
    Solution:
Integrating location-based features to help women find customers nearby.
Partnering with local NGOs and community leaders to spread awareness about Vritti.
  5. Encouraging Adoption Among Women
Challenge: Cultural barriers and hesitancy among women to participate in formal economic activities.
    Solution:
Creating engaging and relatable content on social media platforms, such as videos or testimonials, to inspire confidence and highlight the platform's ease of use.
Leveraging word-of-mouth marketing by encouraging satisfied users to refer others within their social networks
