Decentralized voting system. Tokenized elections
The problem Vots solves
🗳️ Solving Real Election Problems
Traditional election systems are plagued by fraud and manipulation with headlines about ballot stuffing, miscounted votes, and disputed results that drag on for weeks. VotsEngine changes this by mirroring the familiar structure of traditional elections while drastically reducing opportunities for manipulation.
How VotsEngine Does This:
- Eliminates Ballot Stuffing: Votes are recorded directly on the blockchain via a polling unit meaning no physical ballots to manipulate
- Prevents Miscounting: Smart contracts automatically tally votes with mathematical precision, eliminating human counting errors
- Tokenized Elections: Election results become part of an immutable historical record. Future researchers, journalists, and citizens can access complete, unalterable election data. This creates accountability that extends far beyond election day and helps build institutional trust over time
- Instant Results: No more waiting for vote counting, winners are announced the moment voting ends
- Immutable Records: Once a vote or the whole election is recorded on the blockchain, it cannot be changed, deleted, or manipulated
- Public Verification: Anyone can verify the election results independently using blockchain explorers
- Reduces Trust Points: Instead of trusting multiple intermediaries (ballot collectors, counters, transporters), you only need to trust the transparent blockchain code
- Reduces Trust Requirement on Electoral Commissions: Electoral commissions are more transparent and with limited accountability requirements
🏛️ Electoral Commissions Powered by Trust-less Elections
Electoral commissions often struggle with election legitimacy. Voters skip voting because they don't trust the process. Vots enables these commissions with its election system model that provides instant results that everyone can verify, and creates permanent records of participation. Suddenly, democracy becomes accessible and trustworthy.
🔒 Transparency That Rebuilds Trust
The beauty of VotsEngine lies in its transparency. Unlike traditional systems where votes disappear into black boxes and results emerge hours later, every vote is recorded on a public blockchain that anyone can verify. Yet voter privacy remains protected - you can confirm your vote was counted without revealing who you voted for.
VotsEngine doesn't reinvent voting - it simply makes it work the way people always hoped it would: transparent, trustworthy, and tamper-proof while remaining familiar and accessible to everyone.
Challenges we ran into
For the smart contract
The greatest bug we faced was keeping the VotsEngine contract size within 24kb. This occured primarily because we was creating a new election inside another one.
we resolved it by seperating the code and creating a new contract that only handles the creation of new election contracts
For the frontend
Propagating data on blockchain can be quite slow given the time it takes to confirm transactions. We just cached data and only retrieve when needed.
The data output from the smart contract was a bit tricky and changed whenever the contract was edited and updated. We resolved it by creating custom serialisers for it.
