This is a voice automated billing system developed for people working shops, cafe etc. who may have visual impairments.
The problem Voice Automated Billing System for Blind People solves
This system was developed by me and my two friends, Vedaant Arora and Ronit Monga for the visually impaired people working in the cafe of Blind Relief Association, Delhi. This system aims to provide a proper database and a billing facility so that they are able to track the record of their daily sales. Moreover, this system completely voice operated which provides a hands free experience for the visually impaired people. There are only three keys which are to be used i.e spacebar(for starting the system), F(for calculating the daily sales) and J( for exiting the system). These commands can be operated by using the voice as well.
Challenges I ran into
The challenges that were encountered during project were as follows:
- deploying this system in their computer was a challenging task since we had to make various changes in our code and in their system to adjust the working of NVDA and our program.
- choosing the right speech recognition engine was another uphill task since we had to make sure our voice input was recognized correctly
- getting a daily sales report using excel just after the system gets terminated
