VESSEL

Tokenizing Export Invoice for High-Yield Liquidity

The problem VESSEL solves

The $2.5 Trillion Invisible Crisis Global trade faces a massive liquidity gap. According to the ADB, there is a $2.5 Trillion trade finance gap, where banks reject 50% of MSME applications. In Indonesia alone, 65 million MSMEs are the backbone of the economy, yet only 25% have access to formal credit.

Why? The "Collateral Trap" Banks demand fixed assets (land/buildings) as collateral. However, exporters don’t have land titles; they have verified invoices from international buyers. Because banks refuse to recognize these invoices as sufficient collateral, exporters are trapped in 60-90 day payment terms, paralyzing their cash flow.

The Solution: VESSEL

VESSEL is a hybrid Web2.5 platform built on Lisk that bridges this gap. We tokenize export invoices into Real World Assets (RWA), allowing retail investors to provide instant liquidity to exporters.

How it helps:

  • For Exporters: Unlocks 80% of invoice value in <3 days (vs. months) without land collateral.
  • For Investors: Provides access to 10-15% APY yields backed by real trade activities (non-speculative).
  • For the Ecosystem: Uses Lisk’s blockchain for an immutable audit trail while handling settlement via compliant local fiat channels.

Challenges we ran into

  1. The Steep Learning Curve of Trade Finance Coming from a technical background, our biggest hurdle was understanding the complex world of international trade. We had to deep-dive into Incoterms, Bills of Lading, and Letter of Credit mechanisms. Understanding how fraud happens in trade was crucial to designing our smart contract verification logic.

  2. Bridging Blockchain with Strict Regulations The hardest technical-legal challenge was: "How do we connect Lisk to the real world without violating Indonesian financial laws?" Direct peer-to-peer crypto lending is restricted here. We couldn't just copy-paste a DeFi protocol.

The Solution: We engineered a "Two-Entity Model" (Web2.5). We separated the tech layer (Lisk for identity/audit trail) from the settlement layer. We utilize a legal Cooperative structure (Koperasi) for fiat funding and an Escrow mechanism for repayment. This allows us to use blockchain for transparency while keeping the money flow 100% compliant with local regulations.

  1. Fiat-to-Chain Synchronization Ensuring that off-chain fiat transfers (IDR) trigger on-chain state changes (NFT status updates) required building a reliable oracle/listener service to prevent state mismatches between the bank account and the Lisk ledger.
