Proven Integrity, Instantly Verified.

The problem Validia solves

Credential forgery has skyrocketed globally (~2,100%), costing the education sector at least ~$70 million, with manual verification processes taking 3-5 days, being slow, and prone to fraud. This erodes trust in authentic achievements and burdens institutions.
Validia, developed on Lisk, provides a solution for:

  • Issuers (Schools, Universities, Training/Certification Bodies): They can conduct online exams and issue various digital credentials (such as diplomas, transcripts, skill certificates) securely and tamper-proof, directly onto the Lisk blockchain. The per-certificate payment model using IDRX makes issuance costs stable and affordable.
  • Credential Holders (Students, Professionals): They receive, own, and can easily share their verified credentials, which are securely stored on the blockchain.
  • Verifiers (Companies, Further Education Institutions, Scholarship Providers): They can instantly verify the authenticity of any credential in under 5 seconds with just a few clicks via our public platform.

How does Validia make tasks easier and safer?

  • Easier: Validia slashes verification time from days to seconds, eliminating cumbersome and costly manual processes, and simplifying credential management for all parties involved.
  • Safer: By recording every credential on the Lisk blockchain, documents become unforgeable, unalterable, and tamper-proof. Our solution is specifically designed to combat various fraud schemes such as "fake-but-original" credentials issued by rogue insiders, database manipulation by institutional staff, "diploma mill" operations, and the forgery or alteration of physical and digital documents. Each credential has a transparent and permanent audit trail on Lisk, restoring integrity and trust to every achievement.

Challenges we ran into

Building Validia within the hackathon timeframe certainly presented a few interesting challenges!
One key technical hurdle we ran into was ensuring data state consistency on the Lisk blockchain, especially after a series of intensive tests to meet various business requirements. We encountered a couple of instances where data wasn't aligning as expected. To overcome this for the sake of a smooth demo and to validate our core flows, we performed an in-depth analysis and, as an interim solution for this hackathon, manually updated the data to restore consistency. This was crucial for us to showcase the platform's core functionalities, particularly the interactions with the Lisk SDK and IDRX, working correctly. This process also taught us valuable lessons about state management on Lisk and the importance of even more meticulous event design moving forward.
Additionally, since almost all team members are full-time workers, time allocation was a significant challenge. However, with a shared commitment and by focusing on achieving the main functions as quickly as possible, we managed to get it done - even if it meant some late nights. We also initially experienced a slight "silo" between technical understanding and the initial product requirements. We addressed this by breaking down the product needs and business processes again in more detail, leading to a better-aligned and more effective implementation.
