User-Friendly Forces

Chrome extension, that tackles the pervasive issue of privacy policy dark patterns on websites

The problem User-Friendly Forces solves

Dark patterns involve deceptive or manipulative tactics that pushes user to take unintended actions which results in the maximum gain of the organization using dark patterns at the cost of user’s trust. Some of the dark patterns observed in day to day life is the trap laid by company in their privacy policy which user’s agrees without noticing it,or any other could be basket sneaking and many more.
What beserk made is an extension for the users which summarizes the privacy policy and presents to the user in both audible and written format. The extension also tells user about how much the site is malicious or not .

Challenges we ran into

While developing our system, we faced problems, especially with the integration of an external tool called an API. This tool was supposed to show information on the main screen, but it wasn't working as expected. We tried different methods and checked the developer documentation, but nothing seemed to fix the issue. Finally, we solved the problem by adding a few more lines of code. We carefully looked at how data was moving through our system and found a small mistake. By fixing that mistake with the additional code, we made sure the information from the API showed up correctly on the main screen.
