Empowering Dyslexic Minds — One Thought at a Time
The problem UPSCRIPT - DYSLEXIA BRIDGE solves
Dyslexia is a common learning difference that affects the ability to read, write, and spell, despite normal intelligence. Traditional education methods often fail to address the unique needs of dyslexic learners, leading to frustration and lowered confidence. Most existing tools focus solely on basic support like text-to-speech, without addressing the underlying cognitive challenges, such as memory, comprehension, and critical thinking.
Upscript is a solution designed to address these challenges by offering a personalized, interactive learning experience. Unlike traditional tools, Upscript focuses on improving cognitive processes by integrating features like real-time suggestions, speech-to-text, adaptive learning, and memory enhancement exercises. The platform also uses AI to tailor its content based on the user’s unique learning style and progress, helping dyslexic individuals engage with material in a more effective and supportive way.
Key features of Upscript include:
Real-time suggestions for easier reading and comprehension.
Interactive exercises to engage users actively.
Speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities.
Adaptive learning that adjusts to individual needs.
Tools to enhance memory and cognitive abilities.
Collaboration features for peer support.
By combining these features, Upscript empowers dyslexic learners to succeed academically and in real-world situations, while promoting inclusivity and reducing the stigma around learning differences. It offers a holistic approach to learning that adapts to each user’s needs, helping them reach their full potential.
Challenges we ran into
While building Upscript, we faced several challenges, including:
Addressing Diverse Learning Needs: Dyslexia manifests differently in each individual, so creating a universally beneficial tool was challenging. We implemented an adaptive learning system that uses AI to personalize content and exercises based on the user's learning style and progress.
User Interface (UI) and Accessibility Design: Designing an intuitive, accessible interface without overwhelming users was crucial. We consulted with experts to create a simple UI with customizable fonts, spacing, and contrast, and ensured compatibility with screen readers and keyboard shortcuts.
Content Delivery and Retention: Ensuring user engagement and retention was a challenge, as dyslexic learners need interactive and multisensory learning. We added quizzes, memory exercises, infographics, and broke down complex concepts into manageable chunks to enhance retention and reduce cognitive overload.
