Tokenising consumer products on LUKSO

The problem UniversalGoods Protocol (Open Beta) solves

UniversalGoods Protocol creates verifiable Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for physical products on the LUKSO Blockchain, leveraging LSPs for identity and data management. This makes existing tasks significantly easier and safer for various stakeholders:

Enterprises/Brands: It streamlines compliance with regulations like the EU DPP. It enhances brand protection by allowing easy product authentication via its digital identity, combating counterfeits effectively. It provides verifiable provenance data, increasing supply chain transparency. In complex global trade environments with shifting tariffs, the DPP acts as a trusted source of truth for customs, simplifying clearance

Consumers: It builds trust and safety. Users can instantly verify a product's authenticity and access its full history, materials, and sustainability information via the DPP linked to the physical item. This empowers informed purchasing decisions and enables more transparent and secure resale experiences compared to traditional platforms.

Suppliers/Logistics: The DPP NFT provides a standardized digital identity for goods. This simplifies data exchange and improves traceability across the supply chain, reducing errors and friction often found in coordinating between disparate systems

In essence, UniversalGoods Protocol replaces opaque, fragmented systems with a secure, transparent, and standardized digital identity layer for physical goods. It revolutionizes verification, enhances safety against fakes, and brings much-needed efficiency to the entire product lifecycle, from manufacturing and trade compliance to consumer use and resale.

Challenges I ran into

Our primary hurdle wasn't a specific code bug, but rather an architectural design challenge inherent in pioneering novel solutions on LUKSO's advanced standards. We're building two core components:

  • Phygital DPP Standard extending LSP8 with unique physical verification logic.
  • Marketplace Vault Architecture using LSP9 for decentralised, per-listing escrow.

Since these implementations push the boundaries of standard LSP usage patterns, a key hurdle was ensuring our architectural choices were robust, secure, and optimally aligned with the long-term vision and best practices of the LUKSO ecosystem. There isn't always a pre-defined "right answer" when innovating on new primitives.

How we're overcoming it:

We've tackled this through proactive engagement and iterative feedback. We are actively seeking guidance and validation from the LUKSO core team regarding our specific implementations of LSP8 and LSP9 for these unique use cases. This hackathon submission itself is a key part of that validation process, allowing us to present our working architecture and gather broader feedback. We refine our approach based on expert input to ensure we're building sustainable and compatible infrastructure.

Separately, on the business front, establishing initial enterprise pilot programs without existing deep connections is an ongoing hurdle. We're actively addressing this through strategic advisor onboarding and direct outreach of enterprises
