The problem Universal Page solves
Universal Page makes it very easy for creators to launch their own NFT 2.0 drop on Base. It offers easy-to-use tools that do not require technical knowledge. With Universal Page, you can create your customized drop page, manage different phases, take snapshots, and handle everything needed for a successful NFT drop.
Universal Page strongly focuses on user experience and makes it possible to make transactions using either a smart wallet or with just email and a password. Installing a browser extension or mobile app is unnecessary to get started. Users can visit your drop page, create a powerful onchain profile, and mint a free NFT without worrying about gas fees, seed phrases, or tokens.
Challenges I ran into
We mainly support NFT 2.0 standards, but since these standards are not yet widely adopted, we had to think about the best options we could offer creators. Therefore, we have made the new LSP8 NFT standard compatible with ERC721, which is currently the most widely used standard. This means that creators can launch NFT 2.0 collections using Universal Page without the NFTs being restricted to platforms that support these new standards. This is important because broader adoption will take time. By making it backward compatible, the NFTs can be displayed and traded on other platforms such as Rarible and OpenSea. Additional features, like onchain verification, will be visible only on platforms like Universal Page that support the new standards.
Getting started with smart wallets was straightforward, but we had to figure our how to make it seamlessly working together with Universal Profiles. We believe smart wallets work exceptionally well, and giving them control over an onchain profile makes them even more powerful.
To be fully transparent, we had already developed most of the drop editor before the hackathon began. Throughout the hackathon, our focus was on migrating our entire infrastructure to support Base, which was a significant undertaking. Additionally, we worked on integrating the smart wallet, deploying Universal Profiles on Base, ensuring that Universal Profiles work seamlessly with the smart wallet and other EOAs as a controller, and expanding the LSP8 standard to be compatible with ERC721. We are heavily focused on UX and believe our tools can add a lot of value to Base. We know education is also essential, so we prioritized creating explanatory videos. We included a lot of information in the demo video to clarify the concept of Universal Profiles and next-generation NFT standards and how creators on Base can fully leverage them.
