The situation is made worse by the scarcity of sign language interpreters and other resources for sign language communication. This makes it difficult for people to acquire school, find work, and fully engage in society. Through creating the "Universal Hand Gesture Decoder", an assistive technology meant to close the communication gap between the deaf and mute, our team offers a solution to this issue. Some of the problems that are solved by our project when it reaches the final production phase involve: Sign language recognition, Multi-Modal Output, Real-time translation, Customization Settings, and Remote Control.
Some of the major hurdles we ran into were:
I. High Cost of Equipment: Developing a functional prototype of sign language gloves requires a significant investment in materials and equipment such as sensors, microcontrollers, and communication modules. We used available resources to make a working prototype for the time duration of this hackathon.
II. Lack of experience: We, as a student faced various difficulties during the development of this project like organizing, managing, and prototyping the hardware pieces of equipment due to lack of experience.
