The problem Tuma solves
Before Tuma, sending files and documents directly on the Base blockchain was nonexistent. People struggled with the complexity and insecurity of document sharing. Many defaulted to Web2 solutions like Dropbox and Google Drive, which lacked on-chain data integrity and true user control, while others offered limited data permanence, risking the loss of critical files.
Tuma fills this gap as the first and only platform on Base to provide a secure, permanent document-sharing solution. Built with end-to-end encryption, it ensures that only the intended recipient can access the content, while Arweave storage guarantees data permanence, safeguarding against loss. This dual-layered approach positions Tuma as the comprehensive solution for blockchain-based document storage and sharing.
Challenges I ran into
One of the key challenges encountered was the delay in Coinbase’s Dynamic Charges ID status updates. Despite blockchain transactions being verified almost instantly, the charge status often took 6-10 minutes to update, creating a suboptimal user experience. To mitigate this, we implemented a workaround that initiates the file upload process as soon as the 'pending' status is created, allowing users to proceed with the upload while waiting for the charge status to be verified. While this solution partially addresses the issue, we continue to explore more seamless methods to optimize the transaction flow and reduce user wait time. i also ran into problems when syncing everything together with vercel as it had issues with my vite app using serveless functions, however this was finally fixed and the app is working as it should.
