The problem Tree Tracker solves
Tree Tracker lets people register and track trees easily through photos, reminders, and caretaker assignments. It simplifies monitoring for communities, schools, and NGOs by replacing manual follow-ups with real-time digital records, improving transparency, reducing costs, and boosting tree survival, engagement, and long-term environmental impact.
Challenges we ran into
Data Quality Issues: Community-submitted tree data was often incomplete, inconsistent, or lacked accurate GPS readings.
User Adoption Barriers: Some users struggled with digital literacy, and many forgot to log updates without reminders.
Mapping Complexity: Ensuring accurate geolocation and rendering smooth, responsive maps required careful optimization.
System Integration: Connecting frontend logic, React Query caching, Supabase APIs, and map layers introduced coordination challenges.
Designing an Intuitive Flow: Simplifying tree logging, measurements, and story-sharing took multiple iterations based on feedback.
