TrashTrack
This is a Flutter project inspired by sustainability and powered by the community. TrashTrack is a demo of a social platform with geolocation features that brings people a new way of collaboration.
The problem TrashTrack solves
TrashTrack works like a social app, we try to encourage the user to participate actively in helping to create a cleaner and sustainable environment.
- Local communities: it's the perfect option for a better organization of the local communities, who can use this platform also for spreading the word of sustainability.
- City councils and public administration: make competitions or promote sustainability through tech.
The way it works is similar to other social media like Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, etc. We let our users upload a photo of the place when it was dirty, making some points for being the best in the ranking, and then, other users can help clean the place and upload a story of the same place cleaned, earning also some points.
We are trying to create a community, people who care for the environment will be able to help actively make a more sustainable environment and make our community bigger by promoting participation.
We look for ways to motivate the user, for this we establish a points system as well as a score table to be able to compete with the rest of the users.
Nowadays, caring about our world is probably the best way to have a much better future for ourselves and our successors. We have the tools and the motivation to make it easier or at least more entertaining. That's how gamification, community, and tech collaborate in making a better world.
Challenges we ran into
It was our first time with Flutter, so we suffer a lot of headaches developing our project. Our main goal was displaying Real Time Data to our users, and also trying to land in as much platform as possible. That's why we decided to migrate from a typical MySql system to Firebase.
Having a great experience and learning Dart and a new SDK as Flutter was our big goal after all. We think we achieved our little goals and we shared dome good ideas through TrashTrack.
