Verifying Sustainable Coffee

The problem Trace Bean solves

Your morning coffee tells a story.
It's the ritual that starts your day. The quiet moment before work. The reason for a catch-up with a friend.

But what if that story is built on a lie?
Right now, it is. It's a story broken—lost in paperwork, delayed at ports for 3+ days, and vulnerable to fraud.

This broken story has a staggering cost: while 9 out of 10 ASEAN consumers have encountered counterfeit goods, the supply chains behind them bleed $17 billion annually from inefficiency and opacity.

At its core, this is a crisis of trust:

  • For Consumers: No way to verify authenticity or ethical origin. Every purchase is a gamble.

  • For Businesses: Manual processes create costly bottlenecks. Siloed data leads to stockouts, waste, and lost revenue.

  • For the Entire Ecosystem: The absence of a single, immutable record makes fraud rampant, draining over $100 billion globally each year.

Trace Bean: The Truth Layer for Trust

We fix the broken story. We build the dedicated truth layer on the blockchain, replacing fragmentation with end-to-end digital traceability.

🌱 From Farm to Cup: Each batch is tokenized as an unforgeable NFT—a living passport that never lies.

⚡ Slash Delays: Smart contracts automate verification, cutting customs time by over 66%—from days to hours.

🔗 Unified, Not Siloed: Partners share data in real time, securely, without losing control.

🛡️ Kill Fraud: An auditable, tamper-proof record makes counterfeit swaps and false claims impossible.

We don't just track beans—we restore trust. We turn supply chain vulnerability into verifiable value.

Challenges we ran into

Building a bridge between blockchain and the coffee supply chain pushed us into unexpected, real-world problems.

  • The Paper Can Lie:
Our biggest weakness wasn't in the code—it was on the packaging. Anyone can copy a QR code and make fake labels. If the tag on the bag isn't secure, our entire digital truth becomes useless. This kept us up at night.

  • Teaching Tech From Zero:
The farmers, drivers, and warehouse workers we work with often use basic phones. How do you explain crypto wallets to someone who's never downloaded an app? We had to start from scratch—learning how they work before we could build for them.

  • Everyone Keeps Secrets:
In the supply chain, data is guarded like a treasure. Farmers hide harvest numbers, shippers hide delivery times, shops hide sales data. Getting people to share wasn't a tech fix—it was a trust-building mission.

  • What Works For One Farm Breaks For Fifty:
Tracking coffee from one farm is simple. But what happens when beans from 50 farms get mixed together? How do you trace a single bag when everything gets blended? Our perfect digital system met the messy reality of how things actually move.

"Our real challenge wasn't the technology—it was getting the real world to trust it."
