The Problem It Solves
Tipping is becoming a global trend. It's becoming a way for fans to support creators directly with an exclusive interaction. The current tipping platform has processed millions of dollars in tips. And with over 562 million crypto holders and a $4T crypto market, the opportunity is massive.
But current platforms aren't built for this new reality:
- High platform fees eat into creator earnings
- Payout delays reduce trust
- Cross-border support is limited or costly
- Creators don’t own or control their own support
So while the market is growing, creators are stuck using outdated, centralized tools that limit their reach, revenue, and ownership.
What People Can Use It For
Tip-Tap.fun is a web3 tipping platform that gives fans a direct, global, and instant way to support content creators using crypto and NFTs.
Creators can:
- Receive tips instantly with multi-crypto support
- Reach a global audience with borderless payments
- Own and control their earnings through smart contracts
- Lower fees (3.5% for crypto — 0% for NFT tips)
- Offer exclusive experiences and content for fans
- Use NFT tipping as a new form of engagement
For fans, it’s a frictionless, meaningful way to show appreciation. No middlemen, just support.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we had was figuring out the right business model. We didn’t want to charge creators too much, but we also needed something that could support the platform long-term. We spent a lot of time discussing this within the team, and we also got advice from friends and experienced people. After a lot of back and forth, we finally agreed on a model that’s fair and transparent, with low fees and controlled through smart contracts.
On the tech side, we had some issues with how wallets behave, especially when users have more than one wallet installed, or when they’re using mobile devices. Sometimes the app would get confused about which wallet to use, or nothing would show up at all when a tip was sent.
To fix this, we worked on improving the wallet handler logic in Xellar. We made it smarter, so it could detect which wallets are active, avoid conflicts, and respond properly in different situations. It took some time to get right, but now it works much more smoothly for users, no matter what device or wallet they’re using.
