The problem Thetanutty Farm solves

Thetanutty makes selling puts easier to approach through an interactive farming experience.

For crypto users new to options, collecting a premium sounds straightforward, but understanding the commitment behind it is harder. Users must choose a strike and expiry, determine how much collateral to lock, understand potential assignment, and follow their position after opening it.

Thetanutty brings these decisions into one guided journey powered by Thetanuts:

  • Choose a seed: Browse live offers from market makers to buy physically settled ETH puts.
  • Review before planting: See the premium received, collateral required, expiry, and possible gains and losses.
  • Plant a real position: Confirm the required wallet transactions to sell the put on Base.
  • Follow its growth: Each farm plot represents a real position, with growth tied to its actual time to expiry.

We focus on puts because our initial user starts with USDC and is willing to acquire ETH at an agreed price. Physical settlement matches that intention: if assigned, the user buys ETH at the strike, even if the market price has fallen below it. Covered calls serve a different
journey for users who already hold ETH and are willing to sell it.

The farm makes the position visible and approachable while keeping its real financial obligation explicit

Challenges we ran into

** Correctly handling the seller’s collateral**

For the maker-long physical-put orders we integrated, the SDK’s preview returned the premium as totalCollateral. However, the user is selling the put and must supply collateral based on strike price multiplied by contract size. We implemented separate premium and collateral calculations using integer arithmetic and validated the manual execution path with a successful Base mainnet fill.

** Keeping quotes valid during multiple wallet transactions**

Opening a position can require USDC approval, supplying USDC to Aave, approving aBasUSDC, and filling the option. The original maker quote can expire during that sequence. We refresh the order and simulate the exact fill before the final wallet confirmation, enforcing a minimum acceptable premium.

** Handling uncertain transaction outcomes**

A slow confirmation or replaced transaction must not be reported as a failed trade, because that could encourage a duplicate submission. We added transaction reconciliation and a wallet-specific guard shared across browser tabs to distinguish pending, confirmed and failed transactions.

Making the farm meaningful without obscuring risk

The visual experience needed to reflect real financial state. Plot growth follows actual expiry time, positions are linked to on-chain records, and the review displays collateral, assignment obligations and payoff scenarios. Premium received is shown separately from realised results so it is not mistaken for profit.

Constraining the AI farmhand

We separated model decisions from transaction authority. The model works within deterministically screened candidates, while signed user limits and execution checks control what can actually be traded.
