The Lost Dawn
Confront nightmares, decipher cryptic clues, and escape surreal realms in a 2D pixel-art thriller where the final enemy is yourself.
The problem The Lost Dawn solves
This game provides an immersive narrative experience that blends mystery, puzzle-solving, and psychological horror. Players engage with:
Mental stimulation: Decoding cryptic scrolls and strategizing to defeat unique monsters.
Emotional depth: A story-driven journey exploring themes of fear and self-confrontation.
Accessible gameplay: Retro pixel art and semi-linear progression cater to both casual and hardcore gamers.
By merging nostalgic aesthetics with modern mechanics, it offers a fresh take on the RPG genre while encouraging critical thinking and emotional resilience.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing difficulty: Designing puzzles that were challenging but not frustrating required iterative playtesting.
Narrative cohesion: Ensuring the surreal realms tied into the protagonist’s emotional arc demanded careful storyboarding.
Technical bugs: Syncing transitions between realms and the central hub (bedroom) caused glitches; debugging in Godot Engine took significant time.
Time constraints: Prioritizing tasks like pixel art (Piskel) and sound design (BeepBox) within tight deadlines required strict sprint planning.
