The problem The Heritage Connect solves
This solution tackles the disappearance of indigenous knowledge, languages, and cultural traditions caused by modernization and insufficient means of digital preservation. By establishing a user-friendly platform, it guarantees that at-risk texts, oral histories, and customs are safely archived, translated, and disseminated, allowing future generations to retain access to their heritage while also making it easier for a wider audience to engage with and understand these cultural treasures.
Challenges I ran into
Navigating the delicate nature of indigenous knowledge, ensuring that content is not misrepresented or exploited. Understanding and respecting community protocols is essential. Many indigenous languages have complex grammatical structures or concepts that are difficult to translate accurately, making it challenging to create reliable content. Some indigenous communities may have varying levels of comfort and familiarity with technology, which can hinder participation and contribution to the platform. Not all communities may have consistent access to the internet or technology, which can limit their ability to contribute or access the digital archive.
