The problem ScrapLink solves
The project addresses the challenge of responsible waste disposal by connecting individuals with local scrap-collecting organizations. Many people accumulate scrap materials like metal, plastic, paper, or electronic waste but struggle to find reliable, convenient ways to recycle them. This app facilitates easy access to recycling services, promotes sustainable practices, and reduces environmental pollution by ensuring that scrap materials are properly repurposed rather than ending up in landfills.
Challenges we ran into
Challenge: Ensuring that the geolocation services accurately match users with nearby scrap collectors was tricky, especially in densely populated or rural areas where GPS signals can be inconsistent.
Solution: We are trying to integrate Google Maps API for geolocation but kept the option open to test and potentially incorporate additional services like Mapbox to enhance accuracy.
