Bridging surplus food to hungry communities — one meal at a time.
The problem SwaadSetu solves
Every day in India, millions go hungry while tonnes of edible food go to waste. SwaadSetu addresses this mismatch by connecting surplus food from donors (restaurants, caterers, households) to recipients (shelters, community kitchens, NGOs). The platform streamlines donation, pickup, and delivery using a mobile/web app, ensuring food reaches the needy swiftly and safely. It empowers volunteers, reduces food waste, fights hunger, and supports SDGs on Zero Hunger and Responsible Consumption.
Challenges we ran into
Logistics Matching: Real-time matching between donor, volunteer, and recipient locations was complex. We used GIS-based route optimization to ensure efficient pickups.
Food Safety Compliance: Ensuring volunteers handled food hygienically required onboarding modules and a safety checklist before delivery status could be updated.
Volunteer Engagement: To maintain consistent volunteer participation, we added a gamification layer with points, badges, and leaderboards.
Scalability Testing: During the pilot, syncing large volumes of data in peak hours strained the system. We migrated key services to scalable cloud infrastructure.
