The problem SusChange solves

The team took up this golden opportunity presented by the organisation “HackChennai” and decided to commit towards making people aware of one very important step to be taken, even on an individual level, towards making a jovial and healthy future: “Sustainable development”. The website, this website is basically a small scale version of what could be a powerful and mega-influential medium for spreading awareness among the people.We see a webpage beautifully come to life on the screen, with its limelight gradually increasing with every passing moment. For the accomplishment of this goal even through this website, the navigation bar features two sections, on the right, namely: “tree-o-meter” and “solar power”. These sections have been created and designed in the way of keeping the user inputs minimal yet providing outputs with pretty good accuracy. The page “tree-o-meter”, helps people assess the flora density in their areas and helps them compare it with the national average, enabling them to be proud of their input and/or letting them know the correct measures if the density is less. The only inputs it requires from the user are the population in the given area and the flora density (number of trees). The other page namely “solar power” is quite interesting on its own. With the symbolism of making this world a better place even with a small step embedded in it, this page appears elegantly on the screen and lets people know about the energy they could save had they been using solar power instead of the conventional wire transmit system. Knowing that there are places with varying sunlight intensity, the developers haven’t forgotten to include the input for the peak sunlight hours, in radio format. This way, we hope to create a difference in this world by convincing at least one person, who in turn would do the same, henceforth creating a never-ending cycle of awareness and sense of responsibility towards the life of our planet and its resources.

Challenges we ran into

We came to know about a lot of new things such as animations in new CSS. We faced a lot of challenges at the beginning of the project. Finding info on how we can implement the tree-o-meter page. We had a difficulty finding the amount of tree required in an urban area, then making the formula and then finally implementing in the site. Same goes with finding the power of solar panel implementation. Finally, everything came to the best end possible.
