Super Flash Loan

Revolutionising flash-loan arbitraging through seamless cross-chain interoperability.

The problem Super Flash Loan solves

It solves the problem of bridging and losing liquidity on superchain networks for arbitrage opportunities, it abstracts complex cross-chain details from end users and makes flash loans easier and accessible. Allows liquidity providers to benefit from traders targeting disparate chains.

User Interaction and Data Flow

User Interaction: Users interact with a simple frontend interface to initiate flash loan arbitrage between Chain A and Chain B. They input one parameter that triggers the arbitrage process.

DATA FLOW
User(Interacts) → Main Contract (Requests Flash Loan through the FlashloanHandler)
FlashloanHandler → Flash Loan Vault (Borrows ETH)
Vault → IOP Bridge (Bridges ETH to Chain B)
IOP Bridge → FlashLoanHandler (Receives ETH)
Flash Loan Handler → Dummy Contract(Executes Arbitrage and Dummy Provides LP) FlashLoanHandler → IOP Bridge → FlashLoanHandler(Bridges ETH back to Chain A)
FlashLoanHandler → FlashLoanVault (Repaying ETH)
FlashLoanHandler → User (Sends Profit)

The project architecture and development process

Architecture
Solidity On-Chain Backend: The Solidity smart-contract handles the entirety of the backend processing including 1. Accessing and verifying flash loan, 2. Cross-chain token transfer and function calls, 3. Arbitrage simulation, 4. Event generation.

React Frontend: The react front end calls the smart contract to initiate an atomic flash-loan process and listens to events from various function calls to show the progress of the on-chain transactions to the user.

Development Process
The first step was to start building out the solidity back-end to ensure a proof-of-concept was possible. After achieving initial success, the team split off into developing the frontend and fine-tuning the backend to bring together a seamless UI/UX while ensuring a robust poc backend.

Product Integrations

Superchain Predeploys: Used the Superchain Interop pre-deploys to develop bridge assets as well as call smart contract functions across different L2s.
MetaMask: Used the metamask API for ease of use for web3 users, abstracting away complex technicalities about flash-loans and cross-chain transactions.
Thirdweb: we used it to enable react hooks for communicating the web app to the wallet connected.

Key differentiators and uniqueness of the project

Cross-Chain Efficiency: Leverages Superchain interoperability (via IOP Bridge) for seamless movement of assets between Chain A and Chain B.

Comfortable Flow of the system: The entire process (flash loan, arbitrage, bridging, repayment, and profit distribution) is seamless, reducing user effort.

Dummy Contract Integration: The use of a Dummy Contract for arbitrage and LP provision ensures flexibility and scalability for future integrations.

User-Centric Design: Focuses on simplicity and profitability for users, with minimal steps required to execute complex cross-chain arbitrage.

Uniqueness Over Similar Projects:

Unlike single-chain flashloan arbitrage systems, this project enables cross-chain opportunities, unlocking more profit potential.

The integration of IOP Bridge ensures faster and cheaper cross-chain transactions compared to traditional bridges.

The modular design allows for easy upgrades and integration with new chains or protocols.

Trade-offs and shortcuts while building

Technical Challenges and Our Approach: One of the biggest challenges in FlashLoan arbitrage is executing atomic transactions on each Chain. These transactions ensure that all steps (borrow, trade, repay) either succeed together or fail together, preventing the loss of borrowed funds. However, due to technical constraints, we couldn’t fully implement atomic transactions in the way we initially envisioned.

Ideal Setup: In a perfect cross-chain FlashLoan arbitrage execution, users would be able to tap into cross-chain liquidity and then run a cross-chain arbitrage for maximum gain on the spread between different networks.

Why We Couldn’t Implement the Ideal Setup: Bridging assets between chains introduces timing uncertainties.(SLIPPAGE) Basically, executing a sell transaction on one chain and waiting to buy on another chain introduces the potential of a loss and violates atomicity. The infrastructure to support atomic cross-chain arbitraging is still evolving and currently unavailable.

Instead, we’ve taken a more flexible and structured approach: Our solution has been to run the full arbitrage simulation on a single chain. This does reduce potential price spreads that can be captured, but guarantees atomicity, hence enabling the cross-chain flash-loans in the existing technological framework. We have ideated on how risk balancing strategies, collateral staking (or simple collateral), and higher LP fees can result in a new product/DeFi primitive.
