Trustless verified reviews for the internet.

The problem sumoscore solves

People struggle with review platforms being unbiased in their review moderation, not being allowed to freely share their experiences and fake reviews backed by nothing.
Small & medium scale businesses are bullied by review platforms who allow fake negative reviews to be the highlights of their business profiles unless they pay up.

Sumoscore fixes this with a new kind of decentralized review layer for the internet where neither the platform nor businesses can tamper with reviews; only the users own their experiences and high quality service providers & products are rewarded with stellar ratings all made transparent & immutable with base blockchain and stored on distributed cloud storage.

Challenges I ran into

Some of these challenges were encountered:

  1. Proof of Use Verification System Design
Challenge: Designing a system that accurately verifies that a user has used or purchased a product offline that isn't in sumoscore's database yet or onchain.

Mitigation: Integrating with businesses' customer receipts embedded with a tracking QR code, participation/loyalty collectibles, other ticketing systems, or merchant APIs, but adoption and standardization would be rolled out in phases.

  1. Onchain Cost & Scalability
Challenge: Signing reviews onchain (or even metadata) incurs gas fees, and latency in retrieving data from distributed storage.

Mitigation: Using L2 chain (Base) & duplicate hybrid storage (onchain pointers + IPFS/Arweave).

  1. User Experience (UX)
Challenge: Web3 UX (wallets, signing, gas fees) can confuse non-crypto users.

Mitigation: Abstract wallets(privy), gasless transactions, and clean onboarding flows.

  1. Content Moderation
Challenge: Immutable reviews can include spam, offensive, or illegal content.

Mitigation: Use of IPFS selective pinning until community flags/rates them + DAO overseers volunteers moderation.

  1. Sybil Attacks & Fake Reviews
Challenge: Users might create multiple wallets to spam or manipulate scores.

Mitigation: Proof-of-human/identity (e.g. Gitcoin Passport etc.), staking-based review submission, or social graph scoring.

  1. Governance Complexity
Challenge: Designing a governance model that is fair, decentralized, and not easily gamed.

Mitigation: Progressive decentralization, clear proposal processes, and active community education.

  1. Adoption & Integration
Challenge: Convincing platforms to integrate Sumoscore reviews or use it over Trustpilot/Google/RottenTomatoes Reviews.

Mitigation: Focus on crypto-native ecosystems first, win over large number of users, offer huge discounts for APIs/widgets, and show clear benefits like fraud resistance, better treatment of businesses compared to the old platforms.
