The problem Sumhub solves
Sumhub addresses the challenge students face in conducting efficient literature reviews by providing an AI-powered platform for sharing and discovering research papers. Often, students waste valuable time sifting through irrelevant resources. Sumhub streamlines this process, allowing users to quickly access relevant, high-quality materials curated by others. This not only speeds up research but also improves the quality of students’ academic work.
Challenges we ran into
Undefined scope upon start of Hackathon: When the hackathon started the idea wasn't fully fleshed out. We had to account for whats feasible within the timeline and what will be out of scope for the hackathon. We also had to brainstorm together in the beginning and dedicate time to align the goal and requirements for Sumhub.
Figma handoffs: The handoffs between UX/UI and Devs didn't go as smoothly as anticipated. We established more structured design-to-code guidelines and communication to ensure design matched implementation.
We planned to implement Auth0 for authentication with Next.js, but encountered compatibility issues late in the process. After troubleshooting failed, we decided to scrap this approach.
Working with new technologies required us to step outside our comfort zones. We tackled this by dividing tasks based on each team member’s strengths.
