Why are you participating for Based Africa?
I'm participating to contribute to Africa's rapidly growing blockchain ecosystem. With decentralized solutions, we can address local challenges such as trust, transparency, and financial inclusion. I am motivated by the region’s untapped potential, where innovative blockchain projects can have a profound social and economic impact.
What challenges are you focusing on?
We're addressing the lack of transparent, decentralized platforms for creators and users to engage in subscription services without intermediaries. In many regions, including Africa, creators face challenges with high fees, limited payment options, and platform censorship.
How does your submission address this challenge?
The Base Subscription System allows creators to receive payments directly from users through smart contracts, removing the need for intermediaries and reducing fees. Users maintain control over their subscriptions, and payments are automated on the blockchain, ensuring transparency and security. This will particularly help regions where traditional banking systems may not be accessible or reliable, fostering financial inclusion and empowering creators.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was integrating the smart contract with the frontend using Ethers.js while ensuring seamless user interaction with the blockchain. To overcome this, I spent time optimizing the contract functions and improving the frontend's UX for interacting with MetaMask. Additionally, ensuring compatibility with the Base testnet was a hurdle, but thorough testing and debugging allowed me to deploy the contract successfully.
