To bring StreakPetz to life, I built three distinct versions, each an experiment in balancing autonomy, emotional engagement, and technical feasibility. The goal was to create crypto-native pets that feel alive, foster loyalty, and onboard users into GameFi and memecoin ecosystems through Tamagotchi-style care loops.

V1 - The first version was the simplest: wallet login with AI chat. It worked, but pets lacked identity and agency, making the experience flat and forgettable.

V2 - The second version used centralized infra (Coinbase Dev Wallet + AgentKit), giving pets their own basenames and maturity-based airdrops. It was the most engaging and scalable, but came with trade-offs in centralization and platform dependency.

V3 - The third version pushed full decentralization using Base sub-account wallets and multisig control. It offered true pet autonomy and community governance, but required more tooling, testing, and real users to validate the flow.
Each version revealed key insights about emotional design, technical friction, and what it takes to build crypto-native companions that users actually care about. StreakPetz isn’t just a product, it’s a living experiment in how identity, agency, and play can reshape digital loyalty.

Iterating StreakPetz: Versions, Challenges & Learnings

1. Wallet Login + AI Chat (No Pet Autonomy)
   • What it was:
   A lightweight version where users log in with a wallet and chat with AI pets. Pets had no on-chain identity, wallet address, or agency.
   • Why it was easy:
   Fast to prototype, minimal infra, and no need for smart contract interactions.
   • The challenge:
   Pets felt like chatbots, not beings. Without a wallet or persistent identity, they lacked autonomy and emotional depth. Engagement dropped quickly, users didn’t feel like they “owned” or “cared for” anything.
   • What it taught:
   Identity and autonomy are core to emotional bonding. Without a sense of persistence or consequence, the Tamagotchi loop breaks.

2. Centralized Version (Coinbase Dev Wallet + AgentKit)
   • What it was:
   Used Coinbase Developer Platform with Google Sign-In. Pets were AI agents powered by AgentKit, each with their own Base name. Enabled airdrops at maturity levels to top carers and community contributors.
   • Why it worked:
   Smoothest UX. Easy onboarding, stable infra, and scalable. AgentKit made it simple to give pets autonomy and personality.
   • The challenge:
   Centralization. Reliance on a third-party CDP meant exposure to platform updates, gas limit constraints on paymasters, and occasional service disruptions. Required constant tinkering to stay compatible.
   • How it was managed:
   Built fallback flows, monitored CDP updates closely, and optimized gas usage. Prioritized this version for public demos due to its polish and reliability.
   • What it taught:
   Centralized infra can accelerate UX and scale, but comes with trade-offs in sovereignty and long-term resilience.

3. Decentralized Version (Base Sub-Accounts + Multisig Control)
   • What it was:
   Pets as AI agents with their own Base sub-account wallets, controlled by a main user wallet. Designed to evolve into multisig-controlled community pets.
   • Why it’s powerful:
   True digital autonomy. Pets can act independently, hold assets, and be governed by communities. Ideal for long-term, decentralized community takeovers (CTOs).
   • The challenge:
   Sub-account infra is still early. Glitches in wallet behavior, limited tooling, and high friction for solo builders. Managing individual wallet operations for each pet is complex and hard to scale without a team.
   • How it’s being addressed:
   Treating this as the long-term vision. Using centralized version to build traction and test mechanics, while gradually onboarding real users to stress-test the decentralized MVP.
   • What it taught:
   Full decentralization is powerful but requires ecosystem maturity and community co-building. It’s not a solo sprint, it’s a collective marathon.

1. Chat-only version: Fast to build, but lacked pet identity and agency, revealing that emotional engagement requires persistent, wallet-backed identity.
2. Centralized version (Coinbase Dev Wallet + AgentKit): Delivered the best UX and engagement, with pets acting as AI agents and earning airdrops. Validated the power of autonomous pets and maturity-based rewards.
3. Decentralized version (Base Sub-Accounts): Enabled true pet autonomy and community governance, but surfaced infrastructure gaps and the need for real user testing. Proved the long-term viability of wallet-native pets and multisig-controlled community assets.
