StickerChain
Slap the Planet!
The problem StickerChain solves
The problem StickerChain solves is finding economic rules that create efficient markets for placing NFTs at real world locations. I had seen NFT-based metaverse projects be dragged down by the problem of speculators buying up the most prime virtual real estate and then not building anything, making the areas uninteresting. I also talked with techno dj Richie Hawtin about challenges he faced doing attendance based mints live at his shows. StickerChain is the result of a year of building and iterating on this problem.
The solution StickerChain offers is the metaphor of stickers: it costs the same amount to slap a sticker anywhere in the world, but slaps in more popular areas are likely to be slapped over sooner effectively making those places more expensive per time visible.
Challenges I ran into
When working on BlockPlaces, the geographic primitives that StickerChain is built on I had issues with multi-place regions that went over the date line. I worked through these over time by adding test cases.
I wanted new Slaps and Stickers to appear on users' browsers in realtime but i also did not want to have lots of servers running to support that. I solved this by researching the options available in the market and ultimately found a way to handle it with serverless AWS resources.
