Spector Onchain Music Release
Engaging music fans in a release campaign with a share all approach in an industry where gatekeeping is rife. By building the campaign onchain, all assets are collectible to build connection with fans
The problem Spector Onchain Music Release solves
The music industry is stuck in a stagnant system, with music having a shorter life span than ever. The strategy and decisions that are part of a release campaign are important factors in its success, but with the level of gatekeeping in the industry, individuals don't generally share this information.
I wanted to approach a release campaign from a different angle by sharing all the information and rare artefacts created as part of the release. All content is posted across social media and is collectible on Zora. With this process, collectors of the content build connections with the artist, which in turn strengthens the community.
This strategy provides artists with an insight into how I approach a release campaign and also gives fans an understanding of all that is involved in releasing music. People in the music industry generally only share the final product (i.e., the music) but never the process behind it. This helps me build community and hope to educate others along the journey about the music industry and Web3 at the same time.
Once the project is completed, I will build a case study to help encourage people to mint their work and will be running IRL workshops to present tools available to attendees. The workshops will be free to attend, reducing the barrier to entry.
Once IRL sessions have been completed, I will then be reaching out to music conferences in the UK to pitch the case study and use it as a learning experience. The slides from the presentation will also be minted on Zora as part of the whole collection.
The aim of the IRL sessions is to highlight the benefits of minting onchain to onboard more users. The target audience for this will be mainly musicians, but it will be marketed to reach all artists and those who are curious about Web3.
Challenges I ran into
Onboarding Web2 users over to Web3 was my main challenge. With the IRL sessions, I can then use these to explain more of the benefits face to face which I think will help inform people interested.
At the session, I'm going to get everyone to create a Zora account in real time via email to show how easy it is. I will then take a picture at the end of the night and, with everyone's permission, mint the photo with everyone on the split so they can see the benefits of onchain distribution in real time.
